KROWN Vs. FLUID FILM
In the realm of Protective Undercoatings, only one can sit atop the rust-proof throne.
You bite down, and feel the electric twinge of a cavity in your tooth. You enter your basement, and see the crumbling residue of termites at work. Heading out for the day, you notice some paint bubbles near the door handle of your car, a surefire sign that rust has found a foothold.
All three of these warning signs can be easily missed, overlooked, or willfully forgotten. But make no mistake, if left unchecked they can become cataclysmic for your health, safety, and financial security. Thankfully, you have choices when it comes to protecting your car against rust, environmental damage, and the normal wear & tear of everyday use.
Why having a choice matters:
Having a diversity of options is important. It allows you to find products and services that are more closely related to your personal needs. It keeps our marketplaces competitive and inspires innovation within industries. But, with choice comes responsibility- namely, the need to keep yourself informed about the similarities and differences in the things you’re choosing between.
Below we’ll be listing the similarities and differences between KROWN Rust Protection and Fluid Film to assist you in making the important decision of which protective undercoating is right for you.
How they’re the same:
KROWN Rust Protection and Fluid Film (FF) are both protective undercoatings used to stop the formation of rust and provide a shield against elemental damage. Both products are waterproof and non-flammable.
KROWN Rust Protection is non-toxic, as is FF. They are both applied via aerosol spray, and both are able to be used on a variety of products besides automobiles, like lawnmowers and firearms.
But despite this long list of similarities, diving into the differences between these two products is where your choice will become more apparent.
How they differ:
The biggest difference between these two protective undercoatings is the base ingredient. FF uses Lanolin, a product derived from sheep’s wool, something the company has promoted since their inception in the 1940’s. KROWN Rust Protection is a bit younger, having been developed in the mid-1980’s and uses petroleum as their base, which results in a less-sticky finish, but slightly more dripping (but more on that later).
The second biggest difference is the promise made by the manufacturers. KROWN Rust Protection comes with a customer satisfaction warranty, and FF does not offer any kind of guarantee on their product. This can be a major factor when deciding which company to choose, as your peace of mind may depend on it.
There are also differences between how the products are applied. While both are primarily applied via aerosol, KROWN Rust Protection requires trained personnel to apply, while FF trusts you to do this yourself. Despite a growing DIY culture around cars and homeownership, any experienced mechanic will tell you that it’s best to leave important things like repairs and preventive maintenance up to professionals. And while KROWN may drip a bit more during the application process, having it done in a professional garage negates having residual chemicals lying around your driveway or lawn.
There is also a noticeable difference in cost. Krown Rust Protection costs vary by size, but the highest you’d pay (say, for a 4-door pickup truck) would be $159.99. Compare that to the “premium” application of Fluid Film which is a whopping $500.00. Additionally, both products need to be applied annually, and while Fluid Film charges a flat $200.00 every 12 months, the yearly applications of Krown Rust Protection stay the same as your initial price, meaning whatever you pay for your first application will always be your cost.
The choice is obvious
As is often said, “your car is your second biggest investment”. The goal of protective undercoatings is to keep your car or truck safe from rust caused by moisture. And while both products do this job admirably, KROWN Rust Protection is the only choice confident enough to provide a warranty, and insist that your protection is applied by a professional.
Because what good is a product if it is incorrectly applied? KROWN Rust Protection eliminates the possibility of this error by ensuring you save time and work by putting your car’s look and lifespan in the hands of a trained professional. That’s the KROWN difference, and why it’s the clear choice in protective undercoatings.
