Can A LINE-X Bedliner Be Removed?
An unfortunate question that we get every now and again is can a LINE-X bedliner be removed. Our bedlinders are designed to be strong and durable so that they can stand up to a lifetime of abuse, which is why we offer a limited lifetime warranty with the bedliner. But on occasion someone may want to remove their bedliner. So can it be done?
Not Easily Removed
The simple answer to that is not easily. Spray-on bedliners are designed to be durable and last for a long time. With some cracks or chips can appear from years of use or the sun can take its toll and the liner can fade reducing its aesthetic quality. For some unlucky people it can begin to peel. For most people they will simply take it to the dealer who will repair the bedliner, that is what the warranty is for after all. Others may want to remove it completely.
Removing a spray-on bedliner is not recommended, both by LINE-X and any of our competitors that also specialize in this kind of product. If you want to remove it you will be in for a lot of hard work and there is a some specialized equipment that will be needed. Do you have a chemical stripper? A grinder? A heat gun or torch? A hammer and a chisel? OK, you probably have the last one at least. You’ll need it.
Be Ready For A Lot Of Labor And A Lot Of Damage To Your Bed
It is a very messy task that requires heating the bedliner up and then chiseling it away and sanding it down. It is a slow and laborious process and it requires some protection since you will be dealing with chemicals. Even with the most skillful removal of a spray-on liner there will also be collateral damage to the trim or to the bed. Once the liner is removed the bed may need to be repainted as well.
Very few people, pros and home mechanics alike advise a person to remove a spray-on bedliner. It is better to have it repaired or allow a pro to remove it than to remove it yourself. If necessary it can be done but we do not recommend it. If you do want to remove it leave it to a pro, if at the very least because of the potentially dangerous chemicals involved.
