LINE-X Keeping Things Cool
We are in the heart of winter now and it is cold outside. Want to take a break from that? Just think of Monterrey, Mexico where the average February high is 74 degrees and the average July high is 96 degrees. Feels good right about now, doesn’t it? Of course you will need to come back to reality here in South Central Pennsylvania. As you come back to cold York, Pennsylvania have you ever thought about how hard it is to keep things cool in a hot environment?
LINE-X Has!
Modern refrigeration is one of the greatest necessities in our society today. We need to keep our food cold and we like many of our drinks colder. But in a place like Monterrey it is not so easy to do this. Monterrey is located in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountains in northern Mexico. It is one of the hottest places in the country with a record high temperature of 118 degrees! OK, it may not be Death Valley in California and its record of 129 degrees but after 110, who’s really counting? Today the forecasted high is 73 degrees in Monterrey!
For any company that uses refrigerated vans to transport consumable products this heat puts a tremendous strain on the refrigeration system. These lead to overworked systems that fail well before they should, leaving to spoiled food and unhappy customers. Oh, and they also lead to having to prematurely replace the units which cost the owners money, sometimes lots of it. Just think how hard your air conditioner has to work in the dog days of summer here.
Enter LINE-X
Something had to be done and one company in Monterrey decided to try to LINE-X the interior of their van. A special LINE-X XS-100 polyurea/polyurethane hybrid formula was chosen for its durability and versatility in other applications. All rubber seals and doors were removed and any area that would not receive a coating were masked off to minimize the risk of overspray.
XS-100 is one of more than 20 different LINE-X formulas used around the world. It has earned industry respect for its durable, long lasting high performance qualities that protect truck beds around the world and yes, this is what is used in your truck’s bed. You know that LINE-X bedliners are formulated to withstand both extreme heat and extreme cold. It can withstand up to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Even Monterrey does not get that hot.
Spraying A Van’s Interior
The foam was sprayed, left to cure and sanded to a smooth and level surface. The spray was pigmented with a white color to give a cleaner look to the van’s interior and walls. The cargo area was completely sealed in and protected from the outside. The entire process took two days to complete.
Did It Work?
So the big question is did it work? The customer said that their refrigeration unit now runs less frequently, which consumes less fuel for their vehicle and will extend the life of the unit dramatically. They were so happy that they immediately scheduled 12 more vans to be outfitted with the same solution. We’d say that worked!
When you think of LINE-X of course you think of spray-on bedliners but LINE-X’s solution can be used to coat nearly anything, even the interior of a van. Who knows what else LINE-X could be adapted for? Check out the LINE-X website for some ideas!
