There’s no denying that owning and driving a pickup truck makes you proud. Aside from its rugged but elegant look, it is easy to use and can fit on any occasion—business or personal trips.
And while you’re driving—whether a short or a long drive—on the road, you have probably noticed already that other vehicles have different headlights. There are two most common lights used for vehicles which are halogen lights and LED lights. But are these two lights different? If so, which one should be best to use for your own pickup truck?
In this blog, we will share with you how these two types of lights are different and which one would probably suit you better for your own pickup.
Halogen Headlights
This type of light can be found in both old and new vehicles that you can see on the roads. First introduced in the 1960s, halogen headlight bulbs became popular, especially in Europe due to their brightness and durability. During that time, this type of light bulb for a vehicle innovated on how people can travel better at night.
In the modern-day, most vehicles that have the yellow color to their headlights are the ones using halogen light bulbs. This type of light to use for the headlight of a vehicle is still popular today because of its affordable price, especially as a replacement. Thus, other drivers prefer it because the yellow light it illuminates is softer which is on the good side and won’t blind other drivers while you’re driving.
On the other hand, this type of light emits a lot of heat when used, requires more energy, and becomes really hot to touch. Lastly, because of the amount of energy it requires when used, most of it becomes wasted.
LED Headlights
It was introduced in the 1990s and instantly became popular knowing that LEDs, also known as light-emitting diodes, are truly energy-efficient types of lighting. It is also known for being able to emit bright lighting without being too hot compared to halogen lighting. And since it was introduced to the market as another option for headlighting for vehicles, a lot of car manufacturing companies are using this type of light for vehicles.
In many ways, it can be considered that an LED headlight bulb is the opposite of a halogen headlight bulb. Aside from the fact that it emits brighter light when used as a headlight, a LED can make the driving experience easier, especially at night not only for the driver but also for the other driver who can directly see the light without hurting the eyes.
If there can be one downside of LED headlight bulbs to a Halogen headlight bulb, it would be its price. Thus it is more expensive for repair and replacement. But it is well known to last longer.
Which Type Of Headlight Should You Use For Your Truck?
There’s no denying that LED headlight bulbs would be a great option for any vehicle. On the contrary, it is not always the case. Whether you use halogen or LED for the headlights of your vehicle, there are factors to be considered to choose which really would fit your vehicle—such as the design—that would affect the performance along with the driving experience.
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), LEDs are usually the top performers based on the organization’s tests conducted. But they never ruled out Halogen because it still has its own advantage. This is why for other drivers and car manufacturers, Halogens is still good to use. So, when choosing which one between the two types of light bulb to use for your truck’s headlights, you should consider the following:
- Particular driving needs such as driving time if you are using your vehicle more at night.
- Do you often drive in rainy conditions?
