Can Krown be used with hybrid vehicles?
In the grand scheme of things hybrid vehicles are still relatively new. There are some dos and don’t that come with them that differ from that of regular vehicles and a major one is that any sort of rustproofing does not need to and should not be applied. The problem is that these vehicles are subject to the same corrosive forces that gas-powered vehicles are and many owners want to keep their investment in good working order. A question that we are commonly asked at LINE-X and Krown of South Central Pennsylvania is can a hybrid vehicle be sprayed with a Krown undercoating?
Yes it can!
But the manufacturer says not to?
The reason that most manufacturers do not recommend a protective undercoating be applied is that most are applied as a heavy coat. These types of undercoating can cover sensors underneath the vehicle which can lead to safety issues for any technician or mechanic working on the vehicle and can cover up electrical lines.
Krown is different. Krown leaves only an oily residue and is non-conductive so it will have no impact on the electrical system. Krown has actually be used on hybrid vehicles for years and the application is no different than a standard vehicle.
Why do dealers say it will void the warranty?
In areas that receive a lot of snow rustproofing a vehicle can go a long way towards extending the life of the vehicle. Many dealers know that certain types of rust proofing like Krown works fine but they also have their own in house rust proofing to sell and try to push that at two or three times the cost of Krown. They can scare a lot of people by just saying that any aftermarket protection will void the warranty for the vehicle. For the owner of a vehicle that is still under warranty that is not something to take lightly but do your own research and don’t just take the dealer’s word for it, especially if they try to sell their own undercoating.
Is it right for you?
There are many people who believe that a new vehicle or a hybrid does not need a rust protective undercoating. There are others who swear by it. Krown is safe for use with a hybrid vehicles just the same as it is for gasoline powered vehicles and it has been used on hybrid vehicles for years. If you are concerned come in and have a look. We understand that anytime someone tells you that something absolutely should not be done there is going to be concern. At LINE-X and Krown of South Central Pennsylvania we want to allay that fear and help to protect your vehicle so that you get the most out of it for years to come.
