Can You Spray An Aluminum Vehicle?
Aluminum is becoming a more popular material to construct a vehicle from and it is only becoming more popular as time goes by. It is easy to see why, it is more environmentally friendly, it makes it lighter which makes it easier to accelerate and stop while boosting fuel economy and it is durable. It is fast becoming the material of choice in vehicle construction. A common question that we are asked at LINE-X of South Central Pennsylvania is if an aluminum vehicle like a 2015 Ford F-150 can be sprayed with KROWN undercoating.
Yes it can!
Aluminum does corrode over time
Aluminum does not rust but it does corrode. Only iron and steel can rust which gives aluminum a major selling point. Aluminum is very prone to corrosion though and it is very hard to spot when it starts. It weakens the metal making it dull while becoming encrusted with anything and everything that can be found underneath a vehicle. The difference between rusting and corrosion of aluminum is that the oxidation of aluminum produces a thin and hard layer that actually protects the metal.
Oxidation of aluminum occurs because of the same factors as iron or steel. Oxygen and and water come into contact with the metal which reacts with the metal to form that hard and thin layer. Water and exposure to the atmosphere also causes corrosion which can take years to show any adverse effects.
Krown undercoating works with aluminum
Krown undercoating is designed to prevent rust and corrosion on the underside of vehicles but also in seams like the bottom of the doors or the trunk lid. Water gets everywhere. Krown is designed as a rust inhibitor that will lift the water off of the metal preserving the integrity of the metal.
But aluminum doesn’t rust? Krown is designed to work with steel but it works with aluminum surfaces and is just as effective. There is no negative aspect of treating an aluminum vehicle with Krown. It works especially well where different metals come together (which can actually accelerate rust) and works well to help protect the electrical system of the vehicle.
With winter approaching which means snow and the corrosive treatment that comes with it now is the time to protect the underside of your vehicle, whether it is aluminum or steel. Krown is an industry leader in rust and corrosion prevention and has been recommended by vehicle owners all across the United States. You want your vehicle to last as long as it can? Protect its underside with a coating from Krown.
