How Does LINE-X Stack Up Against A Drop-In Bedliner?
When it comes to protecting the bed of your truck there is a lot of competition. Since you are viewing this we are glad that you are considering LINE-X. At LINE-X of South Central Pennsylvania we believe we have the best product on the market and of course we are a bit biased when it comes to that but we want to at try to take an objective look at how our product stacks up against the competition. Today we want to compare a LINE-X spray-on bedliner to a drop-in bedliner.
To further sweeten the pot LINE-X is offering a coupon for 10% off a premium bedliner for anyone who trades in their old drop-in bedliner through April 30, 2019. If you find that LINE-X offers a superior product, why wait? Take advantage of this offer.
Application
A drop-in bedliner is exactly as it sounds, it drops into the bed. The entire bed, including the tailgate is protected and kits can be ordered to work with pretty much any size bed. They are easy to install and are marketed to be able to be installed by anyone, regardless of skill level and can be installed in as little as 10 minutes. LINE-X is a spray-on bedliner where the entire bed is sprayed with the solution to cover it. This work is done by professionals rather since chemicals are involved. The entire process takes several hours.
Verdict: Depends on your needs
Cost
Drop-in bedliners cost about $140-$150 on average. A LINE-X spray on bedliner costs around $500 to install.
Verdict: On pure cost a drop-in is cheaper but you get what you pay for and over the lifetime of your truck LINE-X may be more cost efficient.
Weight
Drop-in bedliners add about 30 pounds. A LINE-X installation adds about 50 pounds to the vehicle.
Verdict: Negligible
Durability
Drop-in bedliners are just that, drop-in. They are placed over top of the bed. The plastic is very good at protecting the bed from scratches and dings when the cargo is loaded and unloaded. While the structural integrity is good they offer adequate protection but once it begins to crack or it is penetrated the protection it offers is worthless. Moisture will seep into the crack or hole and begin to eat away at the bed. Drop-in bedliners are thick but if there is enough force or enough use they can break, which is made more likely due to the lower quality of materials used to make some of them. They also should be fastened to the bed and if not done properly or if it begins to break they can come loose and fall out of the truck. LINE-X is sprayed on and is bonded to the bed. While the coating is thin, it is extremely durable and it is very hard to break or chip. It takes a lot of force and a lot of wear to damage LINE-X
Verdict: LINE-X.
Warranty
Drop-in bedliners tend to be warrantied for protection under normal operating conditions and they typically do not cover commercial use. LINE-X has a lifetime warranty on it regardless of what you do for a living. LINE-X will give you complete peace of mind.
Verdict: LINE-X
Other Drop-in pros
There are some other advantages of drop-in bedliners that LINE-X cannot match. The most obvious is that a drop-in bedliner can be taken out and transferred to another vehicle. That works well as long as the bed has the same dimensions. At the very least removal of the bedliner is much easier with a drop-in when compared to any spray-on.
Other LINE-X pros
When applied a LINE-X bedliner looks really nice and UV protections that can be added can prevent UV damage. LINE-X is one of the toughest materials on the planet and it takes a lot to damage it. The texture of the material also keeps whatever you are hauling from sliding around much better than a drop-in liner. This prevents damage to the sides and anything from spilling out onto the road.
Final verdict
While a drop-in bedliner may be cheaper you get what you pay for. Considering how easily they can become damaged you may pay for several of them over the course of the lifetime of your truck. After the third one it would have already been more cost-conscious to just get a LINE-X spray-on bedliner. With the superior protection and lifetime warranty offered by LINE-X, why not just go with that to begin with? If you have any questions stop in at LINE-X of South Central Pennsylvania to have them answered or for an estimate.
