LINE-X And The Military

Veteran’s Day is today and it is a day that we deservedly focus on the veterans of our armed forces that have helped to keep this country safe. At LINE-X of South Central Pennsylvania we are grateful that you chose to put on the uniform and help to keep this great nation free. LINE-X is doing its part to help keep our men and women in uniform safe and today we are going to detail some of that.

Anti-Terrorism And Security

In today’s day and age with an increased awareness of terrorism and security concerns something better was needed to protect our people and our infrastructure. Entire buildings can be coated with PAXCONⓇ to protect its occupants from bomb blasts and the fragmentation that follows, which is the number one source of injury in an explosion. PAXCONⓇ is formulated to mitigate the effects of explosions by containing the fragmented pieces of the building and whatever else is caught in a blast. 

Protecting Soldiers On The Battlefield

But what about the soldiers in the field? Can they be protected with PAXCONⓇ? Yes they can. PAXCONⓇ can be applied to an armored plate which will cause a projectile like a bullet to hit the armor where the coating will contract and catch the bullet, containing any fragments. This will prevent any deadly shrapnel or fragments of bullets that would cause further injury or even kill the soldier. 

Where Has PAXCONⓇ Been Used?

PAXCONⓇ was developed following a terrorist bombing in Saudi Arabia in 1996 as a result of a government call to develop polymers capable of blast mitigation. PAXCONⓇ was the only one of 27 other materials that made it to the test phases to pass all bomb blast tests. It currently protects buildings like the Pentagon, the US Federal Court House in New York City and other government facilities and also those of our allies.

How Strong Is PAXCONⓇ?

So, how strong is PAXCONⓇ? Researchers at New Mexico Institute’s Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center conducted a series of test explosions to determine just how strong PAXCONⓇ is. Two identical structures were created out of concrete, one coated with PAXCONⓇ and one left uncoated. Inside a dummy was placed at a desk surrounded by computer equipment. A bomb was detonated with the equivalent of 200 lbs. Of TNT and 5 lbs of C4 30 feet from the structure. The dummy in the PAXCONⓇ building was unscathed. The walls flexed a bit and a little bit of dust kicked up but that was all. The dummy in the unprotected building would have not known what hit them.

This is of course not the only testing done on PAXCONⓇ to determine its toughness. Stone Security Engineering, PC conducted a test at their blast and extreme loading test facility in Oregon to compare the effects of an open-air high-powered blast using an ammonium nitrate and fuel oil similar to that of a car bomb. Two eight foot test walls were constructed out of cinderblocks. One was coated with PAXCONⓇ and the other was not. The payload was detonated 30 feet from the wall and the results were compared. Suffice it to say, the PAXCONⓇ wall flexed but stayed intact while the untreated wall turned into thousands of pieces of deadly projectiles and was destroyed completely.
