Prepare Your Vehicle For Winter!
Halloween has passed us and that means that we will now be bombarded with endless Christmas music. You know as well as we do that there are only so many times that you can hear Frosty the Snowman or Jingle Bells before you’ve had enough of it. When you can begin to hear Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer that means that winter is coming. Don’t believe us? Step outside and feel the chill in the air. Winter is coming.
Winter Is Prime Time For Rust
Rust is caused by moisture and just because the warmer months have come to an end does not mean that moisture stops. It can still rain during the winter but the biggest concern comes when the dreaded s-word starts to fall. OK, that’s snow, we’ll say it. No need to mince words. You know it’s coming.
During the summer you spend time washing and waxing your vehicle. You keep your vehicle clean and protect it, partially to make your vehicle look good but partially to prevent rust from forming. Clean off all of that dust, dirt, grime, bird droppings and dead bugs from your vehicle. It’s a good idea to do this since it can extend the life of the vehicle and can help with the resale value of the vehicle.
Do you do this during the winter months? Probably not. At least not as often.
Snow, Salt and Your Vehicle’s Underside
Of course there are car washes that are open during the winter months. Drive by there after snow has fallen and chances are they will be busy. Drivers are busy having their vehicle cleaned up to remove slush and grime and to have the underside of the vehicle cleaned off. Why? Road salt.
Road salt and salt brine are used to de-ice roads to make them safer to drive on here in South Central Pennsylvania. That is a good thing as we all like being able to get home safely but as you drive over it some of that salt kicks up onto the underside of your vehicle and it is very hard to get it off. In fact, the only way to remove it is by using soap and water. Why do you want to get it off? When this salt combines with water it forms salt water and salt water is the leading cause of rust in vehicles.
Rust on the underside of the vehicle is of course not the only concern. Moisture from melting snow or slush, can get into all of the nooks and crannies of the vehicle which can not only exacerbate rusting but cause damage to the electronics of the vehicle. That is not good for your vehicle.
How can you protect your vehicle from this? A Krown undercoating from Krown of South Central Pennsylvania will do that. It’s unique formula is sprayed over the bottom of the vehicle and into every nook and cranny of the vehicle to coat everything with its protecting coating. The coating is good for one year and is able to self-heal throughout the course of the year. It is the best way to protect the underside of your vehicle from rust and corrosion and it can also be applied to electric and hybrid vehicles as well.
Don’t forget as well about applying Krown’s Salt Eliminator as well for extra protection.
Your Truck’s Bed
For pickup truck owners there is another part of your vehicle that is exposed to the elements as well and that is your bed. You need a strong bed because a rusty bed is a weak bed. If your bed is rusty you may not be able to haul as much as you need to, which means a job can take longer to complete than it should.
That same moisture from rain, snow, ice and slush can get into your bed. A tonneau cover can help to protect it but unless you keep your bed covered all winter it will not offer complete protection. A bedliner can offer protection as well but not all bedliners are equal. A drop-in bedliner has spaces that will allow moisture (and other things) to get through to your bed. A spray-on bedliner works best and of course we think that a spray-on bedliner from LINE-X is the best product on the market.
Winter Is Coming…
There is now a chill in the air and fall will soon give way to winter. Winter time offers unique threats to your vehicle. If you want to keep your vehicle in as good of a condition as possible, either so you can drive it for longer or you can get more for it when it comes time to sell it, protecting the vehicle should be at the top of your to-do list. An undercoating from Krown and a spray-on bedliner for trucks from LINE-X will give you the protection that you need to get through another winter here in South Central Pennsylvania and it can help with the resale value of the vehicle as well when it comes time for that.
If you would like to get either of these for your vehicle, schedule today. Winter will be here soon and we are busy protecting the vehicles of York County from what winter will throw at them.
