Spray-on VS Drop-in Truck Bed Liner
When driving for miles, it’s essential to fit your truck with the right protection. One of the most popular accessories with truck owners is the truck bed liner which protects the back of the truck while you transport cargo around. There are two types for you to choose from; one uses a special coating that’s sprayed on as a liner, and the other is a one-piece accessory placed at the back of the truck. Here, we’ve put them to the test so you can decide which is better for your vehicle.
Spray-on Liner
For truck drivers, moving things in and out of the back is all in a day’s work. However, gouges, scratches, and dents are things we all want to avoid. As such, owners look for a solution to protect their vehicle damage — this is where the spray-on liner comes in.
Essentially, a spray-on liner strips the paint from the back of the truck where you would normally place your cargo, but the original coating is broken down to the bare metal. The surface is then painted with the special coating which has a textured surface to protect the truck from getting damaged by cargo.
This process, however, requires specially-trained technicians, and someone who isn’t knowledgeable about this coating may leave you with a badly done job. And because spray-in liners are expensive, you wouldn’t want anyone to waste your money. In addition, if your truck has a warranty for corrosion, it may be voided due to the paint removal process of this liner.
Drop-in Liner
Drop-in liners consist of a rubber lining or hard plastic that’s dropped into the bed of the truck. It’s a more affordable option since it can be installed on your own without the need for experts. Just like the spray-on, it protects your truck from dings and dents and can be easily transferred to another truck, assuming that it is the same size as the one you’re currently using.
There is, however, one major problem with this option. The drop-in liner must be the exact fit to the bed of the truck, otherwise, it will be useless. Even if one claims that it can be used universally, meaning it will fit most trucks, you will still risk the liner not aligning as it should. And if it’s too small, it will move around with the cargo, causing damage to the sides of your truck.
Another reason why these liners may fail is that they usually have a smooth surface, which means your items may slide at the back of your truck. Like the spray liner, it’s best to hire a professional who can make a custom sized one specifically for your truck.
