The History Of Line-X

With more than 25 years in the industry, LINE-X has been known as the leader in spray-on bedliners for trucks. Where It All Started

Claudio Burtin, a race car driver, entrepreneur, and chemist, founded LINE-X bed liners and was credited as the LINE-X trademark’s original creator.

After moving to America from Argentina in 1963, he attended elementary school in Los Angeles. At 15, he attended Servite High School in Anaheim while he worked at Chemetics Systems Inc., where his father also worked. 

He apprenticed under his father, who is a licensed chemist, where he learned about polyurethane chemistry.

The Building Blocks

In 1982, he was able to join his brother and father to become a co-founder of the Burtin Corporation in Santa Ana, California. Their company focused on the development and refinement of different chemicals, including polyurethane. 

During this time, Burtin was chosen to be a specialist to write and design the specification requirements for the Trident Three series insulation for Nuclear Missiles.

He later developed PAXCON and the LINE-X protective coatings. PAXCON is a “blast mitigation” product that was tested and approved by the U.S Military. It’s used to coat U.S. Government facilities such as the Pentagon. In 1986, Claudio sprayed the first LINE-X truck himself. 

Then, in 1994, Claudio became president of Line-X, a division from the Burtin Corporation, where he also served as the Chief Technical Officer up to 2005.

The LINE-X of Today

Burtin eventually sold LINE-X to Graham Partners, where the company has achieved many milestones such as:

•     Creating the first successful high-pressure, high-temperature bedliner
•     Becoming the biggest automotive retail franchise in North America
•     Being the only company with a full-time development and research staff in the industry
•     Being the first spray-on protective coating and truck bedliner franchise as reported by Motor Trend, Inc 500, Sport Truck, Truckin, and many other publications nationwide
•     Creating the first kind of commercially available polyurea
•     Creating the first non-skid polyurea applied on a U.S. Navy submarine
•     Creating the first spray-on product to pass MSHA requirements as a flame-resistant product for sealants and mining applications.

The Leaders of Today

Barry J. McConway

With 30 years of experience in the automotive field, he has been involved in various roles with Gulf States Financial Services, Toyota, and Sky Alland Marketing. He helped launch new products and rebrand the organization. Barry also served as IXS Coatings and Ultimate Linings LTD’s executive vice president. Here, he provided strategic business planning, human resource policies, and direction for corporate finances.

Roberto Martinez

After more than 35 years of marketing and formulating sales and operational strategies, Roberto began his career as a consultant for Bain & Company. 

He later joined Dell Computer, where he was responsible for their marketing department launched in Brazil. He has also worked with Coca-Cola in their New Product Commercialization and Category Management department.

George Lezon

In April 2007, George Lezon joined LINE-X Protective Coatings as the Vice President of Operations. He is responsible for optimizing and implementing business practices, including development and training, throughout every LINE-X network area across 500 locations. 

He can leverage his years of experience in both company-owned automotive operations and the franchised business community. Since then, he has helped to fuel and motivate the growth of the company.

Samantha Styger

October 2009 was when Samantha Styger joined LINE-X to become the Regional Manager. She also served as the VP of Franchise Operations, making her responsible for franchise field operations, national accounts, and franchise sales. 

Since her arrival, Samantha had led LINE-X Operations with her leadership, which only grew stronger when she took the VP position in July 2018.

Across her various roles, she has been an instrumental factor in creating sales programs, training, and the comprehensive development of the LINE-X team.
