What Will Happen To Your Truck’s Bed Without A Liner?
If you are reading this you may very well be deciding what kind of bedliner you want for your truck. We hope that you will choose a spray-on bedliner from LINE-X of South Central Pennsylvania but either way 10 out of 10 experts recommend having a bedliner of some sort to protect the bed of your truck. Of course some are better than others but they are better than nothing. So, what would happen if a truck’s bed is left uncovered?
Scratches To Rust
When you put anything into your bed you can potentially cause damage to the paint and the heavier or more abrasive the object the higher the chance of that happening is. These scratches will eventually eat away at the paint and expose the metal underneath and this can happen quickly. With these loads in your bed driving around with it will also exacerbate this.
When the paint is eaten away it exposes the metal to the elements. As soon as that metal is exposed the rusting process begins and it cannot be undone. Actual rust may not be visible for some time but the process is beginning, you can trust us on that. Exposure to moisture like rain will only hasten this process.
Rust will reduce the weight that your truck can carry making it less effective. It can also completely eat away at the metal and if your bed is full of holes you are asking for trouble when you transport a load. Rust is the enemy of metals like steel.
Keeping Cargo Safe
Bedliners also help to keep your cargo safe. Think about how many turns you have to make while driving. Every time that happens gravity and physics can cause your cargo to slide or move around. Bedliners create more friction than a smooth paint finish so it is harder for an object to move around.
Cargo that is not secure can also cause damage to the bed’s paint and it can also damage the cargo as well. It is possible that the cargo being transported is also abrasive or acidic and should that spill it can cause further damage to the bed. As the cargo shifts around it can also create drivability issues as well.
Then when it comes time to unload loose cargo like dirt or stones it is very easy for that to get caught in crevices in the bed or between the bed and the tailgate. Overtime these loose objects can also damage the paint as they will have an abrasive effect. Of course if you are using a shovel or another tool to unload it those tools can cause damage to the paint as well. The damage may not be much to start with but over time it can add up to serious wear and tear.
Your Own Comfort
Your truck’s bed is hard. It is metal after all and that can be hard on your knees if you are unloading something. While a bedliner is not soft, it is easier on your knees so if you have to spend a lot of time in your bed on your knees a bedliner is a huge plus.
Get A Bedliner!
There are a lot of different bedliners to choose from. Some people simply put a piece of carpet in their truck’s bed or a piece of plywood. Others choose a drop-in bedliner. Of course at LINE-X of South Central Pennsylvania we would recommend a spray-on bedliner from LINE-X. A spray-on bedliner from LINE-X offers complete protection for your truck’s bed so that you can drive with confidence knowing that your cargo is not going to damage your truck’s bed and rust will not be forming.
LINE-X is also one of the strongest materials on the planet, meaning that you won’t have to worry when you transport that heavy load that meets your load capacity. It won’t matter if it is stones, stone blocks or broken concrete. It won’t damage your bed, meaning no rust will be forming and your truck will be able to be used for what you need to use it for for longer.
A bedliner can help you keep your truck longer and increase its resale value when you decide to upgrade. Just don’t forget to have a new bedliner from LINE-X installed on the new truck!
