Will Krown Void My Manufacturer’s Warranty?
In areas of the northeast United States that get heavy snow and rain a vehicle undercoating can go a long way towards protecting it and preventing rust. Here in South Central Pennsylvania that is no different and many car owners choose to protect their vehicle with a Krown undercoating from Krown of South Central Pennsylvania. Still others are dissuaded from doing so by their dealer who tell them that by doing so will void their manufacturer’s warranty. That is not true and chances are they are just trying to sell you their own product at a far most expensive price tag.
How would it void the warranty?
The reasoning behind the voiding of the warranty is that in order for the Krown solution to reach all of the parts of the vehicle it needs to have several small holes drilled into the body. Drilling these holes is the only way to reach these areas and a special tool is used to drill. When completed the holes are treated with a special compound so that they will not rust and are then sealed with a plug that leaves a clean and professional finish. With a third party (ie not the manufacturer or an authorized dealer) drilling into the body of the vehicle that will void the warranty it is claimed.
Is that right?
That might be claimed but it is incorrect. A Krown undercoating protection will not void the warranty of the vehicle under any circumstances. If a dealer tells you this make sure that you get it in writing and also confirm it with the corporate offices, and it probably would not hurt to get it in writing from the dealer as well. Chances are the dealer is just trying to sell you their own product at dealer prices.
Why get it in writing?
If you get your car serviced by a dealer it is important to get any statement from corporate to the contrary of what a third party tells you in writing. If your dealer does believe that Krown voids the warranty they may refuse to work on your vehicle as part of any warranty service, leaving you with either a non-working vehicle or out more money then you need to be. Obviously a written statement from the corporate office can go a long way to smoothing this out but chances are they are just saying this as a scare tactic to upsell you. It is certainly effective though. This is also true for hybrid and aluminum vehicles as well.
If you have been told this you are not alone
Just a quick perusal of the Internet leads to many message boards where this is a common question. The answer received from people who have had Krown applied is that no it does not void the warranty. Be a smart consumer and do your own research on this, do not take the dealer’s word for it. Then call LINE-X and Krown of South Central Pennsylvania and schedule your car to have the Krown undercoating applied to it.
