The Holiday season always seems to come and go but the one thing that stays constant is travel! Many people are traveling across the country for holiday vacation and vacations in general. People love road trips because it is an adventure all while reaching their destinations. And if you’re one of those who love driving, it is important to have your vehicle ready for the long road ahead.
In our last blog, we shared some tips to ensure your vehicle is ready to be able to adjust well to the changes in weather and/or season. If you haven’t read it you can read it first here.
In our new entry, allow us to add a few more tips to share with you. Now that you’ve ensured that your vehicle is good to drive, it is time for us to focus on your well-being. Here is a checklist for safer travels this holiday season and beyond.
Put Together An Emergency Kit
Having an emergency kit in your vehicle while on the road is truly beneficial. Not just for you but for your vehicle too! There are two types of emergency kits you have to prepare.
A kit for yourself (and whoever you’re travelling with). Since it’s a road trip, chances are you’re driving on long highways. There might be deserted areas or unpopulated areas. Pit stops may be few and far between, which is why you have to prepare some stuff in case you get stuck on the road.
- First aid kit
- Flare
- Documents (driver’s license, car registration, car manual, etc.)
- Extra car keys
- Map/Travel app
- Food and water
- Have a list of numbers (that you can contact if anything happens)
- Flashlight
- Car phone charger
Those are some of the items essential for your wellbeing.
A kit for your car. Always ensure to bring car tools that you can use in case of emergency. This is important because you never know what’s going to happen. So, you might as well get prepared. Having the basic tools for your car will come in handy.
- Spare tire
- Jack
- Jumper cable
- Portable gas container
- Wiper fluid
- Life Hammer
- Tow strap
- Inflator seal spray
Most of these can be put in a toolbox, big enough depending on your vehicle’s capacity. Considering where you will store it along with the portable gas container is also something to consider. It’s understandable if you’re not savvy about fixing your car’s engine, but having these ready would be beneficial when needed.
If you’re travelling in a snow-prone area and you get stuck, it’s best if you have a [portable] shovel and ice scraper with you. It’s not fun shoveling ice and snow by hand!
